About the WordPress Migration Service
Website Backup
Safety first, before I transfer your website to its new hosting provider I will make a full backup of your WordPress installation including the core, theme, plugin files, and database.
Website Transfer
Once I have a complete back up of your website, the next step in the migration process is to transfer your files and database to your new hosting provider.
Update Domain
As soon as I have uploaded your website files and imported your database, we’ll be ready to update your DNS settings to point your domain name to your new hosting provider.
Reconfiguration
If you are using the same domain name, reconfiguring your website to work with your new hosting provider is a quick affair. However, rebranding to a new domain often involves a little more work!
Frequently Asked Question
How long does a typical migration take?
Standard host to host migrations takes around 2 days after credential receive, while more complex migrations can take up to a week.
How much downtime will I experience?
My aim is to keep downtime to a minimum. Your downtime depends on how long your domain’s DNS needs to propagate. In other words, it is a period of time ISP (Internet Service Provider) nodes across the world take to update their caches with the new DNS information of your domain. This normally takes between 24hrs to 48hrs depending on where you are in the world. We suggest transferring your website when your site is least active. Often, we find that weekends work best for many businesses.
Will my site look the same after migration?
For standard WordPress host to host migrations, unless otherwise noted, there will be no change in your current site design or functionality.
What about my email addresses?
If you created an email address with your old hosting provider you will need up re-create the email address with your new provider. The same applies if you have any email forwarders installed. If you are working with a third party service, you will need to update the respective service settings.
Can you transfer to any hosting provider?
Yes, as long as the hosting company supports WordPress’s requirements. To double check, I suggest contacting the hosting company before signing up to their services. If you not sure which hosting provider to choose, I recommend SiteGround.
Can I change my domain name?
Yes, we can transfer your site to a new host and configure your WordPress website to work with a new domain.
What do I need to provide for the migration?
I will need access to your current website. This can be via your current hosting dashboard, cPanel, or FTP/SFTP.
What do you need in order to complete the transfer process?
- URL of the source site and URL of the desired destination site.
- Hosting (cPanel) login for both source and destination site.
- WordPress login to the site you want to transfer.
What does this service not include?
Domain registration and setting up an email that uses your new destination domain are not included. In case you need to get these services, please send me a message via the contact form.
How much do you charge for larger sites?
For each additional 10 GB, I charge $25 extra. Please send me a message via the contact form.
What are your payments terms?
The Migration Service is paid in advance.
I normally use PayPal as my payment processors. If you don’t have a PayPal account, you can pay with Visa or MasterCard.
If you are international and want to send a bank transfer, I recommend you to use TransferWise for minimizing charges of such bank transfers.
I also offer direct banking and payment in installments for clients established in Mexico.
What's your refund policy?
Refunds are issued in my sole discretion. Anyway, I provide a 100% refund if I am unable to perform the scope of work.
